TAILS FROM THE GRILL
I don’t know about you but organising a catch up with friends has recently become something of a military operation; each party putting forward a few available dates in the next three months in the hope that we might strike it lucky and have a mutually free Friday or Saturday night. But living for the weekend isn’t really something that sits too well with me, (hence the freelancer life) so I’ve been making more of a conscious effort to do a bit more midweek mingling.
With this is in mind, I headed to Hutchesons on Ingram Street one sunny late summer evening with my fellow blondie, social butterfly (and trouble maker), T/Tracey/Traz/Trazzle Dazzle, to take advantage of their Tuesday ‘Tails from the Grill’ offer which, to be completely honest, sounded too good to be true.
I hadn’t been in Hutchesons since its recent makeover so I couldn’t wait to see the changes. We met at the super stylish bar for a little glass of fizz to kick off proceedings.
WHAT WE ATE & DRANK
We were then taken to our table in the grandest of dining rooms upstairs and we wasted no time in order a bottle of house red. The Tails from the Grill offer, which runs every Tuesday night, compromises of two enormous Atlantic king prawns (the uglier the seafood the better, as far as I’m concerned) two ox tail croquettes, 500g of rump steak (we had ours cooked medium rare - perfection), two portions of hand cut chips and two sauces… oh, and a bottle of wine for £40… Not each, but for the two of us!
And in case you’re thinking they scrimp on the portions, let me assure you that they absolutely do not. We really struggled to finish the last couple of slices of steak but we were NOT defeated, we’re quite a pair of troopers.
You can barely go for two burgers with soft drinks in Glasgow for £40 these days so the Tails from the Grill deal really is outstanding value for money!
The Bubbles and Brunch deal, which runs every weekend at Hutchesons, has always been an absolute favourite of mine (and my friends) but the Tails from the Grill offer is a definite winner too and I’m already planning my next trip back.
There’s definitely something about the relaxed ambience at Hutchesons which means that I frequently end up losing hours and hours in there (we once ended up ‘brunching’ for 7 hours!) so it was no surprise that we were last to leave the restaurant, more than suitably fed and hydrated. And really, what more can you ask of a Tuesday night?
